Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May Show Times: 11am, 1pm and 3pm
When it comes to keeping livestock, pigs are often up near the top of the list. And while they may not be everyone’s idea of the perfect pet, the fact that they are so intelligent can make them the ideal outdoor companion.
We will have six Rare-Breeds of pigs on display throughout both days. We will also be having several pig shows which will be hosted by Andy Gready our stockman, as well as Vaughn Byrne (Sunday) and Nick Hunkin (Saturday).
Vaughn Byrne (Sunday): Referred to as "Mr. Pig Himself" by Jimmy Doherty on a Jimmy's Farm episode, Vaughn was the person who introduced several Rare Breeds to Ireland in the 1970's.
Vaughn introduced the Dexter Cattle Breed, The British Saddleback, The Tamworth and the Berkshire, whilst most of us were still attending Primary School! He also introduced several new Gloucestershire Old Spots blood lines including both lines of Rufus, Princess Ann and the Ellen.
Nick Hunkin (Saturday): Nick is a Pedigree Tamworth Breeder based in Somerset. He is a national expert in pigs and a commentator at a variety of British Pig Association (BPA) shows and events of Traditional and Rare-Breed pigs. He is also the Chairman of the Tamworth Pig Breeders' Club.
Andy Gready (Saturday & Sunday): Originally from Wiltshire, Andy joined Jimmy's Farm in October 2008 as Stockman of pigs, cattle and sheep at the farm. Andy has been around pigs all his life and is an accomplished Pedigree Saddleback breeder winning many prizes over the years. |

Sheep shearing, shearing or clipping is the process by which the woolen fleece of a sheep is cut off. The person who removes the sheep's wool is called a shearer. Typically each adult sheep is shorn once each year (a sheep may be said to have been "shorn" or "sheared", depending upon dialect).
Watch Sheila Suffolk's Shepherdess will be Sheep Shearing during and putting her team of border collies through their paces then meet the dogs. |
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May From 10am - 5.30pm
Many breeds of poultry are on the decline, once they are gone we will lose a large part of our agricultural heritage. It is estimated that five breeds a year are lost.
Small backyard breeders are the backbone of keeping breeds of non commercial poultry going for the future. At Jimmy's Good Life show we will try to encourage people to keep poultry!
We will be providing help, support, products and encouragement to those wanting to take up this worthy hobby. |
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May From 10am - 5.30pm
"It's very easy for all of us to do our bit for honeybees, bumblebees and other pollinating insects by growing the sort of plants and flowers they love - either in our gardens or in pots on windowsills or balconies. To have bees visit your garden is a cause for real celebration." - Kate Humble, Springwatch
We will be holding an introduction to bees and their importance to the British Countryside. You can also learn about sustainable beekeeping and how you can help in ways big and small.
You can also roll your own wax candle (small donation required) and take it home with you!

Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May From 10am - 5.30pm
The Herb Garden is where it all began for the 'Gardens at Jimmy’s Farm.' Caela worked tirelessly to transform the centuries old, derelict cattle yard into an incredibly imaginitive and peaceful garden. Here you can explore and relax amongst a wonderful world of aromas, herbs and ornamental plants.
Caela's Vegetable Garden started life as the original cow paddock where the dairy cows would emerge after milking. This has provided it with years of natural farmyard manure which has made it a prime location to situate Caela's Organic Vegetable Garden.
Get your hands dirty and help plant out our vegetable garden!
We will have lots of plants, pots and herbs for sale in the Courtyard. |
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May From 10am - 5.30pm
Spinning is an ancient textile art in which plant, animal or synthetic fibers are twisted together to form yarn. For thousands of years, fiber was spun by hand using simple tools, the spindle and distaff. Only in the High Middle Ages did the spinning wheel increase the output of individual spinners, and mass-production only arose in the 18th century with the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution. Hand-spinning remains a popular handicraft.
You will be able to meet Sally and find out more about this handicraft. |
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May From 10am - 5.30pm
Suffolk Young Farmers will be taking the strain at Jimmy's Good Life Show and seeing how far around the farm they can pull a tractor - see the boys (and possibly) girls on the pull showing just how good the Young Farmers lifestyle is for your health!
The Young Farmers will also have a stand displaying everything that is great about Suffolk's Young Farmers community in it's 50th year, for which we are delighted to have Jimmy and Michaela as our patrons.
There will be ATV's, mini diggers and all sorts of challenges to tax the brain and give you an idea of what benefits there are from this great organisation.
For 10-30 year olds based in Suffolk with an interest in the rural lifestyle Suffolk Young Farmers clubs give young people a voice, opportunties and a group of friends for life. |
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May 10.00am - 5.30pm

Jimmy has introduced two new Rheas (boy and girl) to my Nature Trail this week! The Rhea is a member of the ratite group of birds, like the Ostrich and the Emu. It is about a fifth of the weight of an ostrich, but it is still a big bird, weighing from 23-27 kg when adult and standing over five feet tall.
Their homeland is the Pampas of Argentina, extending into Patagonia in the south. Thus, they come from temperate zones, and so they can thrive in the open in our climate.
We are currently running a competition over Half Term to find names for our male and female Rheas so come along to Jimmy's Farm, submit your entry and be in with a chance of winning a Nature Trail Pass for a year! |
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May From 10am - 5.30pm
Butterflies are Jimmy's specialist subject. Part of his dream has been to create a haven for indigenous and tropical butterflies at Jimmy's Farm.
Aimed at all ages, the Butterfly House is designed to transport visitors to another world where butterflies flutter gracefully around a tropical paradise.
The Butterfly House offers the British public an incredible chance to see rare and imported species from as far a field as Asia and South America. Visitors can also observe their life cycle up-close in this new addition to Jimmy’s Farm. |
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May From 10am - 5.30pm
Get up close and personal to our animals on our Nature Trail.

Building dens and shelters is something that we have all done as children and helps us to create a bond with nature. We want to encourage children to get out into the outdoors and building dens in the woods is an activity that children and adults can enjoy and take part in.
So explore our beautiful woods and build dens and shelters! |
Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th May From 10am - 5.30pm
Visit Darwin's Garden at Jimmy's Farm. The garden is designed to reflect Jimmy's own interest in Charles Darwin.
