VEGETABLE GARDEN
VEGETABLE GARDEN

The vegetable garden started life as a field, where the dairy cows from the old farm would emerge after milking.  This obviously provided it with years of natural farmyard manure, which is simply wonderful for growing healthy veg! We are blessed with a great depth of top soil in the garden these days, which drains brilliantly to prevent our precious produce from getting bogged down.  This truly is a vegetable gardener's dream plot!

Last year we produced our first crops and sold them in our farm shop and at our Farmer's Markets.  The produce proved very popular - the perfect accompaniment to all our delicious meats. Tanya the gardener will tell you exactly how many steps you take from the field to the shop - talk about low food miles!

The vegetable garden this year will be slightly different, as we will be following old-fashioned crop rotation methods. For those who are unfamiliar with this idea, we rotate crops to give the soil time to recover from the demands of the previous year's crop.

This helps to deter the risk of disease and improving the quality of the produce. We follow organic methods, so our veggies are as natural as we can make them on the farm!

This year we are using Fothergills organic vegetable seeds [available for purchase in the garden shop and online].  If you have a little space at home, why not have a go yourself?  We would love to hear about your experiences in becoming a vegetable grower.

In addition to our vegetables, we are also growing flowers for cut flower arrangements, strawberries and fruits.  Not forgetting our extremely popular herbs.  We keep our own butchery and field kitchen in supply of herbs for all of their delicious recipes.

Volunteers Needed!

We need some volunteers who have some gardening experience to come and help us. If you think you would like to help out in the Vegetable and Herb Gardens for a couple of hours a week or even a couple of days a week on a Monday and/or Wednesday to  then please contact Tanya on 07979 811929 or tanya@jimmysfarm.com.
